Do you want to discover the old fair and culture city Leipzig on your own? Then our partner evendito is glad to help you with all the organisation.
1. Day: Leipzig for Beginners
You can start the first day with a guided walking tour through the centre and old town of Leipzig. Here you get to know the history of the town and all the cultural and historical sites of the place.
After that have lunch in Europe's biggest and one of the oldest student clubs: the Moritzbastei. The old cellar bastion from the 16th century offers good cuisine for a reasonable price and a unique ambience.
To extend your knowledge about the history of Leipzig you should visit the Museum of the town's history where you will be impressed not only by the old dungeon with its medieval torture equipment.
2. Day: Leipzig for Creative Folks
The second day is completely devoted to the arts. You start with a tour through the Museum of Fine Arts in the city centre. Today's collection consists of 3.500 paintings, 1.000 sculptures and more than 60.000 graphics and ranges from the late Middle Ages to Contemporary Art. After that you go west and have lunch in the Kanal 28. The restaurant is situated right at the Karl-Heine-Channel and in summer you can sit on the terrace and have a nice view on all the little boats and gondolas. Now that you're strengthened by the excellent buffet you visit the Baumwollspinnerei and have a tour through the company grounds of the former cotton mill. After it was closed by the beginning of the 1990's many artists, craftsmen and other creative people settled here. More than 100 professional artists work here and show their work in several galleries and exhibitions and an expert will guide you through the ateliers and exhibitions and explain the exhibits to you.
3. Day: Leipzig for Explorers
Today you discover the south of Leipzig and you start with the Assisi Panometer, an old gasometer which shows the world's biggest 360 degrees panorama. You can take a guided tour and discover all those little extras and hidden treasures which cannot be seen on the giant picture on first glance. After that the most famous street in Leipzig, the Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse invites you to have a stroll through all the colourful shops, book stores, record shops, cafés, restaurants and second hand stores. At night this is the place to party but also during the day this street has a lot to offer. For lunch we recommend Café Waldi, a popular retro-style café with a solid cuisine, but of course there are lots of other good restaurants in the south. After your meal you dive into Leipzig's underground and explore the catacombs of the Feinkost, a former canning factory and now the cultural centre of the Karli.
