Probably the most famous restaurant in Leipzig is the Auerbachs Keller. It is situated in the Mädlerpassage only a few metres away from the market and already in the 16th century it was the most popular wine tavern for the locals. When Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Germany's No. 1 classic writer, put a scene of his most famous drama "Faust" in the Auerbachs Keller, he erected a memorial in the restaurant's honour. At the entrance you can find a bronze statue of Faust and Mephisto and legend has it that good luck will come to you when you touch Faust's foot. So better don't forget to do so...and of course you can eat and drink here as well...
