The Red Bull Arena has 43.500 seats and is home ground of the local football club RB Leipzig and venue for many big concerts and events.
It was formerly known under name Zentralstadion and built after WorldWar II out of the war wreckage in Leipzig. Until the renovation for the World Cup 2006 it was able to seat 100.000 people. Many big games were held here, for example matches of the GDR national team or European Cup matches of the 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig. The unofficial record of 120.000 visitors dates back to October, 27th in 1957 when the GDR played against CSSR – and lost 1:4!
Today the Red Bull Arena is part of the big sport complex that also consists of the Sports University, the fair ground and the Leipzig Arena. You can book a stadium tour or just watch a football match.
