Known around the world as the home of the St. Thomas Choir and the former working place of Johann Sebastian Bach, St. Thomas Church is one of the most important attractions of Leipzig. Today's building in late Gothic style was built in the late 15th century. Johann Sebastian Bach worked as choir master of St. Thomas from 1723 to 1750 and you can find his memorial right at the side entrance.
The St. Thomas Boys Choir was founded in 1212 and throughout the centuries it became one of the most famous choirs in the world. Although the boys also travel the world a lot the most popular concerts still are the "Passionen" of Bach which they perform together with the Gewandhaus Orchestra every year on Christmas in St. Thomas Church.
This event always attracts a huge audience and the tickets are generally booked out a year in advance.
