Without any exaggeration Leipzig Zoo is one of the most beautiful Zoos in Europe. It is world famous for its long history and tradition and for an excellent species-appropriate keeping of all animals.
Founded in 1878, the zoo was known worldwide during the 20th century for its lion breeding. Today, with more than 800 different species living here, Leipzig Zoo wants to be the "Zoo of the Future". Visitors can experience the animals with all senses in their natural habitats.
The newly opened Gondwanaland - a huge tropical rain forest hall with more than 500 different plants and animals from three continents - is probably the biggest attraction. But other areas such as the African Savannah, Pongoland (home of the great apes) or the elephants swimming pool are definitely also worth a visit.
The zoo is situated in the centre of Leipzig at Pfaffendorfer Strasse. Opposite to the entrance is the parking block.
