Although our sensational Leipzig is in constant battle with Dresden about the question: what is Saxony's best city? And although we are convinced: Leipzig is the best!, we still have to admit that the old town of Dresden and especially the natural surroundings of the city are almost anbelievably beautiful.
Situated on the green meadows of the river Elbe and stuffed with baroque architecture (Dresden has always been the residence of the Saxon kings and electors) and important art collections, Dresden undeniably deserves the nickname "Elbflorenz".
Visit the Semperoper, the Dresdner Zwinger (art collection), the Frauenkirche (which was destroyed in the Second WorldWar and re-opened in 2005) or take a boat trip on an old steamer and sail from one beautiful mansion to another.
