The town at the river Elbe became a centre of political, cultural and historical changes in the 16th century.
Wittenberg is the origin of the religious Reformation introduced by Martin Luther. The world famous Reformation sites in the old town and several other buildings have been visited by thousands of people from all over the world for centuries now. These buildings as well as the church of the town and castle are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
Every year in summer the locals celebrate and re-enact "Luther's Wedding" and the town goes back to Renaissance with old markets, musicians, knights and mergants...
